Race is on to find 10km champ

It will be interestin­g to see if a new champion is crowned at the Baywest Mall 10km run on Saturday. So far, no runner has successful­ly defended the title.

The race, organised by Charlo Athletic Club, was won by Adriaan Gerwel (Ikhamva) and Adri Wessels (St Albans) last year.

The 10km will start at 6.30am and the 5km at 6.45am.

Late entries and registrati­on will take place on Friday from 5pm-7pm at Baywest Mall (upper ground entrance 4) and on Saturday morning from 5am (lower ground entrance 4).

The entry fee is R50 for the 10km and R30 for the 5km fun run. A temporary licence fee of R30 applies only to the 10km. EPA-registered athletes over 65 will pay R30 for the 10km race.

● Clubs are advised that 2019 licence forms are available from the ASA website.

Forms from members must be collected as soon as possible, as no licence can be issued unless the form is signed.

Clubs will be notified when the 2019 licences are ready for collection. A schedule with times will be circulated to clubs indicating when they can collect from the EPA office.

To facilitate the collection of the licences, clubs must make an appointmen­t during the allocated times. Licences can be collected from Tuesdays to Thursdays.

Payments can be made only by electronic transfer – no cash payments can be made. Payment must be made before collecting licences.

● The EPA office will close at 1pm next Friday (December 14) and reopen on January 8.

● The 1City Marathon and Relay run in Port Elizabeth in October will be shown on SABC2 on Sunday on Athletics Alive.
