CLEAN BEACH AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE

I have been sitting on Santos Beach – immaculately clean. The beach and ablution block cleaners have just finished, and the wellplaced dirt bins have been emptied. It is an absolute pleasure to sit on a clean municipal beach. The DA municipality knows how to ensure that tourists return.

NO ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR WATER LEAKS

While the councillors are on holiday, responsibilities disintegrate. Water leakages reported before Christmas have not been attended to. I and other responsible citizens break our backs (a friend broke his ankle) carting out saved water to our gardens and to fill the toilet cisterns. We try to save water. Why don’t you?

Please send litter pickers to the Walmer Township soccer fields, preferably on a windy day. Their job will be made much easier as ALL THE litter stacks up against the fencing! While there, they can pick up the litter in the stone channel alongside the road.

DETERIORATING SCHOENIES BEACH

It's sad and pathetic, not to mention embarrassing, to see how Schoenies beach has deteriorated. Filthy toilet facilities, unsafe walkways and grounds not maintained. One must ask where has the money allocated for the upkeep, maintenance and refurbishment of this oncepristine public beach gone. It was a humiliation taking Johannesburg visitors to Schoenies in December.

BEACH, STADIUM LITTER SICKENING

What a disgrace. Seeing the litter on our beachfront and the photo of the rugby stadium makes me feel sick. To all those who went to the beach over the festive season and to the concert at the stadium, I hope you all feel embarrassed. You will most probably say you are creating work for the unemployed. Shame on you all.
