Pupils failed by lack of space at schools

-

It is sad and disappointing how the government fails our children, yet they are constantly reminded that they are the future.

How are they the future when the government fails them in the present moment?

There are schools that discriminate against single parents who only want to give their children the best, yet are dictated to as to how the child's condition needs to be to apply.

I recently applied at a Port Elizabeth primary school and was advised about the radius the child needs to be in to apply for the school.

I was told how each principal now drives door to door to confirm the address confirmed on each application, implying at the time that they were not happy with my proof of address.

I was advised by the department of education that school placement for each child would be based on availability of schools, when the city barely has any new schools.

As contradictory as the government and these [former] white schools may be, this is becoming a serious problem that is slowly going nowhere.

Parents are forced to take their children to these private/independent schools that are ridiculously expensive, which then puts the parents in more debt again.

This later means the children are not getting their dayto-day necessities.

What is this country coming to?

Is the country failing our children and their future? What are we to do?
