REPLIES TO COMMENT

Oh Gordon Upton (“Players not good enough to win”, January 14)! What are you smoking? If players “aren’t good enough and not skilled enough”, then why are we wasting money for salaries, etc for a bunch of losers? If Deon Davids had been coach of any other franchise in the world, he would have been without a job ages ago.

I am and always have been a Bulls supporter, and was shocked to see Davids on the short list. I presume the selection panel at the time had also been smoking whatever you were. Thank heavens he never landed the post. SHERWIN SCHREIBER, BLUEWATER BAY, PORT ELIZABETH Sorry Opinioned (“Act on vagrant problem”, January 10), l couldn’t help seeing the funnier side to the Ultra Liquors vagrants. Perhaps they needed the mattresses, after imbibing the contents of the liquor store.

VIRGINIA BUSSY Shame on you, Teacher (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 14), for sinking so low as to try to debunk Angi Jones, former EDO in the PE district office. You show your character as that of a spineless jellyfish by not even having the guts to write under your own name.

When I was a teacher at Loyiso High School in Zwide I got to know Jones as she was our EDO. In the execution of her difficult tasks she proved to be an official of the highest integrity who defended veritas, the truth, without fear or favour, often at personal expense.

Cowardly Teacher, hands off Angi Jones. I beseech Angi to continue speaking out as an education activist. A blessed 2019 to you, Angi.

SCHOOL EDUCATOR, NELSON MANDELA BAY Julian Julies (“Rejected God”, January 15), schools cannot promote Christianity at the expense of other pupils who are then made to feel unwelcome. If you are a Christian you will know God put the parents in charge of their child. It is because of bad parenting that children have no respect. TEACHER

MOCKERY OF CLAIMS

Cyril Ramaphosa, how can we believe you? The photo in Monday’s The Herald of Ramaphosa and Jacob (Gupta) Zuma together toasting the anniversary of the ANC makes a mockery of Ramaphosa’s claims to be fighting corruption in the ruling party! SANDY

LEAK NOT FIXED

There’s been a water leak in Lavender Crescent, Uitenhage since Wednesday last week. On Saturday they came and dug a channel to direct the water into the street away from the neighbour’s garden. On Monday the contractor spent the whole day phoning the municipality to switch off the water so he could replace the valve – of course they never arrived.

It’s time councillor Mongameli Bobani and Andile Lungisa actually do something constructive for once. A VC, UITENHAGE

DON’T SEE OFFICERS

Really! We have 92 traffic officers (“Bay budgets for one new traffic cop in new year”, January 15)! Where are they? Sitting in offices as I have not seen one for years? Minibus taxis running riot. FROTTIE

BE VISIBLE IN WALMER

I plead with our traffic department to please come out of hiding and do law enforcement for what they are paid to do! Please be visible in Heugh Road in the morning between Eighth and 10th avenues, Walmer and the metro is sure to fill its coffers with all the fines that can be issued. There is no regard for the rules of the road.

ANSWER THE PHONE

Will someone please answer the phone at the Uitenhage traffic department? Been trying for days to get through. Are they back from Christmas yet? Please Uitenhage DA ward councillors, help us.

CUT OFFICIALS’ PAY

I suggest the management of Eskom takes a reduction of 15% of their salaries per year for the next three years and forego any bonuses. WS

TAKE A STAND

South Africans need to take a more harsh stand against the continuous and pending increases in our fuel and electricity tariffs.
