KWA-ZULU-BASED Red Chesnut Road is among the entries for the R250 000 Tommy Hotspur Handicap over 1 000m at Turffontein on Saturday February 16.

This son of Pathfork is the only visiting horse among the 19 nominations for the Grade 3 race to be run on the Standside track.

Trained by the father and son team of Robbie and Shannon Hill, Red Chesnut Road looked to be a superstar in the making when he won his first two races by a combined total of 14 lengths. However, he had a few issues which resulted in a break of more than eight months and although he won a barrier trial, it was almost two-and-a-half years before the five-year-old gelding notched up his third win.

He has had a run at Turffontein which was in the Grade 3 Man O’ War Sprint over 1 100m in 2017 in which he ran fourth.

The Gauteng entries are headed up by Rebel’s Champ from the Paul Peter yard. He made the trip to Kenilworth for the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship but finished unplaced. He has 62kg to carry but will be a force if he has overcome all the travelling.

Other interesting entries include Billy Silver and Prince Of Kahal, who looks quite handily weighted with 55,5kg on his back.

There is a supplementary entry stage which closes on Monday at 9am while declarations close at 11am on Tuesday.
