No officers to help in traffic jams

- Michael Stow, Summerstrand, PE

Traffic jams and ensuing road rage have become common in congested areas such as William Moffett, Cape Road and all the major road arteries in our metro – yet there is not a single traffic or metro police officer in sight to control the situation and protect lives.

Somewhere along the decline in race relations, we have evolved a selfish culture of “I have right of way”, ignoring four-way stop and traffic circle rules, all of which reduces traffic speed and adds to delays.

The DA, ANC and NMB metro are all remarkably silent – could they elaborate on exactly how many traffic and metro police officers there are, and why they are doing nothing during Eskom’s rolling “blackmail” blackouts?

Our business (as with many others) is experiencing loss of productivity and income as a result of load-shedding – we have lost several computers due to surges and brown outs, others have lost switchboards, all adding to a collective loss that translates into economic downturn and job losses.

Adding insult to injury, our municipality charges us four times the Eskom tariff for electricity – the highest in SA.

Why on earth should we vote for any of these clowns when they are completely indifferent to the danger their lack of interest poses to life?
