1896 Railway trucks loaded with between 56 and 60 tons of dynamite explode at Braamfonte­in station, Johannesbu­rg, when hit by a shunting train. Estimates put the death toll at 62, but it may be as high as 350.

1988 A bomb shatters a crowded bank office in Windhoek, killing 14 people and injuring 31.
