BOBANI TIP OF THE ICEBERG

“Bobani must go” – The Herald October 3. Bobani is the tip of the iceberg. The whole coalition must go. Andile Lungisa, Marlon Daniels, the six EFF councillors and council speaker Buyelwa Mafaya are all destabilising and destructive forces. They are all adding to the dysfunctionality, driving business away. The only way things will get better is for an election to be called now or for the ANC to form an interim coalition with the DA.

FREE MARKETEER How does it work, the same people who vote for Bobani want him out? Too late for tears. Andre

CLEAN UP THE CITY’S MESS

What’s wrong with the vast majority of our people who love littering ? On Saturday evening, our beachfront was once again destroyed with piles of broken beer bottles, food litter etc. Disgusting behaviour that would never be tolerated in the Cape Town metro. There is only law enforcement on soft targets in PE.

Not impressed Municipality clean up. Lots of comments recently about the need to clean up many areas of the metropolis. I think City Hall would be a good place to start. Get rid of the rubbish there, problem solved. You’re welcome. Mike R

WHAT HAPPENED TO FLAG?

I have just arrived in PE and despite our newspaper reporting “the biggest flag flies here” it is not flying and hasn’t been for a long, long time. Certainly not in 2019. What’s happening? Port Alfred resident

CHALK AND CHEESE

Last week, my wife and I spent some time in George. It is incredible how much this small town has grown over the last 20 years. More incredible is how clean it is and the absence of potholes. Can this be because the ANC have never had any control there or been able to destroy and break everything as they have done everywhere else, including PE? Sandy

NIGHT PUTT-PUTT DANGER

We took our grandchildren to play Adventure Golf at the Boardwalk. As it started to get dark, we discovered that the lights on four out of the nine holes were out of order, making it extremely dangerous as we were plunged into total darkness and trying to find our way around was not easy. I would appeal to the powers that be who run the putting course to either fix the lights urgently, or close the course at night before someone is seriously injured on the uneven ground between holes. MARCH AGAINST PROTESTS

Isn’t it time we organised protest marches against protest marches? Just asking.

FOETUS DEBATE

I think that Dianna Barnard is showing her ignorance. A five-week-old foetus is not a viable life outside the mother’s body.

STEALING FROM GIVERS

The Gift of the Givers arrive in Graaff-Reinet and within 24 hours are robbed of their diesel and tools. They say no good deed goes unpunished. Reader

STOP UKUTHWALA

Dealing with gender-based violence is a top priority – President Cyril Ramaphosa has called parliament for a meeting to discuss eradicating the scourge. The customary practice of ukuthwala between Makhanda and Ulundi is a big part of GBV. Why is Ramaphosa so quiet about this? Why are women organisations so quiet about this? Come on SA, let’s stop ukuthwala and give our young girls countrywide an opportunity to complete school and choose their life partner. We owe it to our female children.

WORD ‘MAINTENANCE’ IGNORED

Sick of excuses. The chirp correctly refers to lack of maintenance. Sadly, we have to accept that the word maintenance does not exist in the vocabulary of the ANCcontrolled NMBM. Reader

FIBRE DIGGING COSTS

Digging fibre ditches again! The price of “progress”. What price will the workers’ eyes pay? No protective eye-wear against dust and dirt in this PE wind. Claire
