Muir, Renton star for Cuylervill­e

There were superb performanc­es in the Grahamstow­n Cricket Board (GCB) first league at the weekend.

Charlie Muir and Jamie Renton were the heroes for Cuylervill­e in their 264-run win over Makana.

Left-handed Muir smashed 134 and Renton recorded a fine 116.

These two showed no mercy to the Makana bowlers and Richard Muir was equally impressive with his quick-fire 53 runs.

Cuylervill­e posted a mammoth 410 and bowled Makana out for a mere 146.

Ayabonga Xanisa 4/54 (10) and Sqibo Bongo 3/57 (10) were the best bowlers for Makana while Mbulelo Dingaan (41) was their best batsman.

Kyle Handley 4/52 (10) and Warren Tarr 3/19 (4.2) took wickets for Cuylervill­e.

Defending champs Sidbury hammered Port Alfred by 203 runs.

Sidbury batted first and posted a huge 265/7.

They then bowled Port Alfred out for a mere 62 (21.4).

Cliff Savage played a superb knock and went on to score a magnificen­t 108.

He was well supported by the in-form Carl van Niekerk, who contribute­d a fine 65.

Rob Nel (4/26) and Justin

Dollery (3/18) impressed with the ball for Port Alfred.

Bryce Howarth was the standout bowler for Sidbury, taking 4/31 (7).

Willows lost by four runs to hosts Salem in a tight match.

Salem batted first and scored a decent 291.

Nicholas Zimmerman continued his good form after his recent century with a fine 77.

Chris van der Meulen (42) and Leard King (40) also chipped in with valuable contributi­ons.

Veteran seamer Melville Daniels was the pick of the Willows bowlers with figures of 4/50 in 10 overs.

Willows found themselves at 65/5 at one stage but Tando Ngcete came in with a positive frame of mind and scored his first century in the league.

Ruwayne Brooks (46) and captain Seviano Jasson (46) tried their best and almost pulled off a memorable win for Willows in the final over of the day.

They finished on 287, with Brian Ngugu 3/61 (10) the standout bowler for Sidbury.

Meanwhile, the NMB Premier League continues with fixtures planned for Sunday. They are: BLG Gelvandale v Motherwell; Madibaz 1 v Mechatroni­c Uitenhage; SA Home Loans Union v Madibaz 2; Standard Bank United Brothers v Bloemendal; Windhill v Jendamark United.
