DON’T BE AN EASY TARGET
With reference to “Cellphone theft warning”, The Herald, March 2, and February 25 (“Gotcha! Passers-by nab robbery suspects”), while I respect the reader’s concern and hereby also sympathise with the victim on that specific day that this robbery took place on Admiralty Way in broad daylight, I’m sure that there’s no need to keep on reminding people, grown-ups in particular, that everyone should at least by now know that the “evil eye” is watching and waiting for the golden opportunity to “strike” when least expected. A person walking alone and busy on social media in particular is, has been and will always be an easy target if we allow this type of behaviour. We have been warned through The Herald and other media, among others, to always be observant but yet we as human beings find it hard to practice safety at all times. I fail to believe that the SA government is really serious about democracy and freedom of expression or speech among others and that it has been implemented. Instead of life becoming better for all South Africans as promised, it’s clearly evident that this promise was fake and we all will have to live in fear for the rest of our lives. Those who ignore the bad experiences pertaining to safety, unfortunately have to suffer after learning the harder way.
