EXPENSIVE MAT

Disability mat at Happy Valley that cost R400,000 — most probably made in Persia.

WHY MUST WE DO POLICE WORK?

Mircea Negres, I couldn’t agree with you more. I also thought, how could the editor say people must inform the police when we all know that will place their lives in danger? Besides, why do we in the northern areas pay taxes and rates if we must do the police’s work for them?

REPLACE THE OLD WATER PIPES

A burst water pipe in Admiralty Road, Summerstrand last week and another two on Saturday! When will our pathetic municipality wake up and realise that patching the rotten old existing pipe is not the solution! This situation has occurred at regular intervals over the last two years! As ratepayers, we are fed up — but then of course, the entire metro is rapidly going to the dogs under the present administration! The obvious solution is to replace the old, inadequate water pipe ASAP!

RATEPAYERS SHOULD HAVE A SAY

Port Elizabeth name change. Should the vote in this regard not have been put to the ratepayers — surely we have a say in the matter?

Shaun Claasen, Port Elizabeth

Port Elizabeth was named after the beautiful and much-loved Elizabeth Donkin. Her husband must be turning in his grave at the state of the city and a name change will allow him to rest easy.

Karen, Central

I was also against the renaming of the city until I saw the front page of last Thursday’s The Herald. Along with the name change story was another article about two tourists being mugged on the Donkin. Port Elizabeth was a proud name and not worthy of the filthy, crime-ridden tip the city has become. Let the name changers go ahead!

GOOD WORK DELIVERING BABY

Good day, my sergeant (Detective Sergeant Eugene Bantom), I read the article in my daily newspaper The Herald, (“Kinkelbos police help ‘catch’ baby”, March 5) and after I finished, tears rolled down my cheeks. All in all, your generosity and going the extra mile in your duties, and the constable (Vanessa Baartman) you were with, I say well done, you deserve a reward.

THANKS FOR RUGBY FIXTURES

Thank you to the editor for listening to my request to publish local rugby fixtures. Well Done.

SELLING BOREHOLE WATER IS THEFT

With regard to the drought in the Eastern Cape, why is NMBM allowing the sale of borehole water (for profit) in Port Elizabeth? There are 10 ads in Gumtree alone. Charge the mothers and stop this theft of metro property.

MORE TO FEAR THAN VIRUS

Why worry about a Coronavirus in SA when we have a far more fatal violence virus?

STOP THE NOISE

I sincerely agree with Beth on “Noisy Herald delivery ”— the vehicle wakes me up every single morning at 4am. It must be stopped or many of us in Humewood would rather cancel our subscriptions!
