Smoke, hot air and mirrors

- Tod Burns, Port Elizabeth

I read with interest the government preparations for the coronavirus.

Very noble indeed, but it’s all smoke, hot air and mirrors (just ask the South African citizens stranded in Wuhan).

At time of writing, four people have been diagnosed with the virus so far [17 as of yesterday], yet a simple Google tells me 57 people are murdered daily and 40 die every day in car crashes in SA.

We’ve got Aids deaths, dodgy polony and don’t eat the pilchards.

The only thing the ruling party has managed to improve is load-shedding — there was none before, it’s much better now.

Eskom is a contradiction in terms and the ANC wants to take our pensions to fix it.

You don’t lend money to a drug addict; the ruling party is a “corruption addict”, and the addiction will be fed.

In addition to what is already stolen, 65% of our tax goes to feed this monster.

It would be cheaper to hire private contractors and get Eskom, SAA and the potholes fixed ourselves.
