NO TO ALCOHOL BAN

-

The appeal by premier Oscar Mabuyane for the government to reintroduce a ban on liquor sales is a typical knee-jerk reaction one has come to expect from the ANC. Liquor sales are governed by laws and there are law enforcement agencies to control the outlets. Why threaten the employment of thousands of workers because authorities are unable to control the hooligan behaviour of a small number of youths?

Many people consume alchohol responsibly. They should not be penalised because of a lawless element who endanger those around them. The premier wants the sale of alcohol banned again because of abuse by those who do not obey the regulations of social distancing or the rules of the road, where alchohol abuse leads to increased pressure on health facilities. The problem is lawlessness not alchohol sales, so address the problem.
