WAKE UP, TAXI INDUSTRY

Taxi industry suffers. Wow. So the taxi industry wants to strike because Covid-19 is resulting in loss of revenue. Shame. It is terrible. Wake up, taxi bosses. What about all the people who have lost their jobs? Companies that have been shut down? You are an arrogant and lawless bunch of hypocrites. Be thankful that you can still do business. Right now there are more taxis than passengers. I plead for all people to boycott taxis. Walk if you must, but do not let them control our lives. Taxi owners must also pay tax on revenue earned (Are you listening, Sars?) And the ANC government

— if you bail out the taxi industry then you can bail out everyone else who is suffering as a result of Covid-19.

ED Stephenson Who is in charge of SA? Is it Mr Ramaphosa and his Coronavirus Command Council, or is it the taxi industry? Why should these taxis demand so much money? They haven’t been without work, yet they threaten to hold the poor commuters to ransom. There are millions of people who have not earned any money, have lost their jobs, and now they must be made to pay more ... something is very wrong here. Stop allowing this blackmail, Mr President. Save SA, please.

LEAK LETHARGY

Water leaks. Considering the state of affairs with regards to water and the constant warnings from the municipality to save water, one would think it would be a priority for leaks to be fixed. I have been phoning every week since the beginning of May to get a leak fixed. How can it possibly take so long to sort this out?

LIBERATE OUR LIBRARIES

Can anyone give me one reason libraries are still closed? We urgently need books and magazines to keep us occupied and, perhaps, consume less alcohol.

NOT ONLY WHITES RACISTS

Why is it that whites only are racist? This is wrong.

WORKERS DESERVE TIP

Re Tip Training: Being frequent “tippers”, my husband and I took a carload of recyclables to a busy Sunridge tip the other morning. Lorries, cars, bakkies and trailers were all in the queue. We were directed by a smiling, efficient gate man to where we could offload. A helpful, though tired, woman helped us and we were soon on our way. Perhaps, Mr Skovar, they were having a bad hair day when you visited. I always find a smile and cheery greeting work wonders.

BRING BACK DEATH PENALTY

When will the ANC lawmakers ever see the light and bring back the death penalty? According to the radio news, a woman is killed every three hours! All opposition political parties should arrange a protest march in favour of the death penalty. Reading our newspapers these days leaves one with a sense of despair and disgust.

Stan Murder of women and children needs a punishment that fits the crime. Capital punishment is the only solution. You kill, you forfeit your right to life.

CROSS IS THE WORD

I have been a subscriber to The Herald for more than 60 years but, like Ed Gutshe, I am cancelling from the end of this month. You brightened up your paper with additional crosswords for a while. Then, for no reason, you stopped them. Don’t tell us you haven’t the space as you publish a photograph of a man riding a bicycle in the desert or some other senseless pictures from overseas.

Peter, St Francis ● We introduced the extra crosswords during level 5 lockdown restrictions as entertainment for our readers. Regrettably, we are no longer able to provide the service. — Acting editor Rochelle de Kock

BEDFORD ACHIEVEMENT

A young Bedford farmer’s wife ran 90km over dirt roads last Saturday and raised R67,000 for the Bedford Soup Kitchen. It supports 700 kids. Die Burger featured her effort and The Herald had nothing. Does it even know where Bedford is?
