Get ready for weekend betting feast
MORE than R1-million will be added to various TAB horseracing pools this weekend, so make sure you bet on the tote to win your share.
On Saturday, Champions Day takes place at Turffontein, and the Pick 6 pool will be boosted with a R500,000 carryover. The estimated pool will be R3-million.
The first Jackpot pool will get a R100,000 injection, as will the Quartet pool on Race 6, the Grade 1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes over 1 600m.
Sunday’s feature race meeting at Greyville will give serious punters a second bite at the cherry, as the Pick 6 pool is estimated to reach R1,5-million thanks to a R250,000 carryover boost.
The first Jackpot pool will also get a R100,000 lift while the Quartet pool on Race 8, the Grade 1 Daily News 2000, is expected to reach R500,000 thanks to a R100,000 carryover injection.
Remember, these carryovers are only part of the tote pools, so you have to bet on the tote to stand a chance of sharing in the spoils.
Part-time punters should also remember that they can still study form like the professionals as ComputaForm remains free of charge online.
A comprehensive guide to reading the ComputaForm is also available free of charge at tabonline.co.za.
These books usually cost around R40 per edition but are available for free download.
But there’s still a lot of racing to be done before the weekend, most notably at Hollywoodbets Scottsville today, where nine races are carded.
The best bet of the day seems to be Anika The Angel in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1 600m.
She was beaten by the smallest of margins – 0.05 lengths – in her last outing 17 days ago and is set to go one better when jumping from pole position.
Early indications are that there will be a flood of money on this Wylie Hall filly, so consider using her as an anchor in an All-To-Come bet or a banker in exotics to earn a decent return.
Race 5, a MR 78 Handicap over 1 950m, is one of the trickiest races on the card.
Champion-elect jockey Warren Kennedy resumes his partnership with Gareth van Zyl Jnr’s Slievanorra, while Anton Marcus gets his second consecutive ride on Yogas Govender’s Bayview Express.
Both these two runners won last time out – the former on 5 February and the latter on 9 February.
Slievanorra gets the nod, despite going up against the boys this time round, as she has a perfect two-from-two record at the course.
But don’t for one moment expect a two-horse race. Other runners who have the ability to take the chequered flag are Quintay, Techno Captain, Don’t Look Back, Dinetto and Winter Is Over. - PHUMELELA
