Go for double gold

-

TAB Betting on the Vodacom Durban July opens today and punters are reminded that they can place an All-To-Come bet into Saturday’s main race at Hollywoodbets Greyville from today’s race meeting at the Vaal.

To take an All-To-Come bet, choose any race meeting from today until Friday 24 July, place your All To Come in the normal way and make your last selection a Win or Place on the Vodacom Durban July.

The great advantage of taking an early All-To-Come bet is that, should you unfortunately go out, you have a chance at redemption by starting over.

Today’s meeting at the Vaal offers punters two great opportunities to go for gold and get an early All-To-Come bet running up some cash, with Golden Belle in Race 7 the Best Bet of the meeting (win) and Golden Spiral in Race 9 the Value Bet of the day (place).

Golden Belle faces nine competitors in an Allowance Plate over 1 200m. Despite a merit rating of 116, by far the highest of all the runners, this three-year-old Pomodoro filly trained by Sean Tarry will carry only 55.5kg, the second lightest of the field.

She was a runaway winner of the Grade 2 Camellia Stakes over 1 160m in her first post-lockdown race 24 days ago, beating Schippers by 4.25 lengths.

If she comes anywhere near the form she displayed at Turffontein, she should record a fourth career victory in seven attempts.

Although only having raced six times, she is a veteran of four Class A contests.

Golden Spiral has a much more daunting task when she lines up in Race 9, a Classified Stakes for horses with nett rating of 75 and below over 1 200m.

A three-month break seems to have done this

Crusade-filly trained by Dianne Stenger the world of good. Despite a slow start, she made up lost ground and finished second behind Anne Boleyn last time out – her first run in more than three months.

With a second and third place finish over course and distance to her credit, she could well go one better today.

The main opposition is Spanish Boy, trained by Lucky Houdalakis. This Silvano gelding won on debut and was then pressed straight into Class A action, perhaps a bit optimistically.

Today he enters the starting stalls for the seventh time and in this company has a much better chance of finding that elusive second career victory. PHUMELELA
