Mfeya named human settlements director
All departments in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality officially have executive directors.
This follows the appointment of Tabiso Mfeya as executive director for human settlements.
The post had been vacant following Nolwandle Gqiba’s resignation in 2019.
The appointment was agreed on by councillors during Friday’s council meeting.
Mfeya’s appointment was discussed behind closed doors.
Electricity and energy executive director Luvuyo Magalela, who has stepped in as acting city manager while Mandla George is on leave, welcomed the appointment.
“The advent of the coronavirus pandemic not only caught government unawares, it highlighted the need for improved services for the most vulnerable,” Magalela said.
“The restoration of human dignity by providing decent housing for the poor, innovative spatial planning and urban renewal are just some of the areas that require renewed focus and dedication. Mr Mfeya has a wealth of experience in the human settlements environment on an executive management level and we have high expectations that his appointment will augur well for our institution.
“I would like to wish him well on behalf of the municipal administration and welcome him on our team.”
Mfeya previously worked for the City of Johannesburg’s human settlements department, the Sol Plaatje municipality and the Stellenbosch municipality, among others.
Human settlements political head Mkhuseli Mtsila declined to comment on the appointment.
