HELP CLEAR ALIEN BUSH
Considering the devastation of the recent Cape Town fires and the role poor alien plant management played, it brings home the challenges and a warning to our own metro. We hope people take note and turn that into action. It is clear we are not on top of the eradication of species like the Port Jackson willow, rooikrans and black wattle. Their proliferation threatens our own five biomes. It can be done. NMU with its large nature reserve is no stranger to the threat of wildfire and they have made significant strides in clearing alien plants within their reserve. But our metro needs a broader society-wide response. You can take up the challenge yourself in the area closet to you or please join us on our next Wessa (Wildlife and Environment Society of SA) alien hack. Here’s the chance to do something! Meet us at Sardinia Bay parking lot on May 8 (Saturday) from 9am-11am and help us clear a piece of alien vegetation.
