The Eastern Cape’s celebrated TV and radio host, Anele Mdoda, has walked away with yet another coveted title at the 2021 SA Radio Awards.

Mdoda recently won the award for Best Breakfast Show Presenter for her show, 947 Breakfast Club with Anele.

Radio is Mdoda’s first love and her 947 breakfast show is among the most popular shows on air in SA.

Holding a spot heavily contested by men, Mdoda said she ran her show the only way she knew how — with passion and profound respect for her listeners.

“I am so grateful to my listeners for riding with me every day.

“Winning awards is not the reason I do what I do.

“I am passionate about radio, it is more than a job for me, [it is] a lifestyle, and to be paid for it is the cherry on top,” Mdoda said.

Born in Mthatha, Mdoda is no stranger to the airwaves.

She began her career in campus radio at the University of Pretoria in 2004.

At the time, she was a politics and international relations student at the university.

This, before heading to 947 with her then co-host, Grant Nash.

The two then left for 5FM to do the 12-3pm slot before Mdoda returned to 947, where she now holds the reins on the breakfast slot alongside Frankie du Toit, Cindy Poluta and Thembekile Mrototo.

The radio star is also an award-winning TV host.

Mdoda has hosted various shows from SA’s Got Talent, to

POWER of 5, Clash of The Choirs and her own talk show,

Real Talk with Anele.

Her brainchild, The Buzz, is airing on Honey TV and E! Entertainment’s

Celebrity Game Night after a three-year hiatus from the small screen.

In 2014, Mdoda presented the docu-reality series Dream School SA on M-Net.

In the same year, she copresented SABC 3 talk show Tongue In Cheek.

While on the popular Real Talk with Anele from 20162018, Mdoda recorded almost 400 episodes over four seasons, earning the show an SA Film and Television Award (Safta) in 2017 for Best Talk Show.

Her career has taken her to all corners of the world, but she recently told the Sunday Times in a Q&A that for a good time she still preferred home.

“’Where is the best place in the world for a night out? Mthatha, shame!

“Kumnandi eMthatha guys, corner lounge. Or Chicago or Coachella?” she said.

The 947 Breakfast Club is on weekdays from 6-9am.
