Credit all parties in coalition for new life in Bay
In The Herald of September 14, Brendon Pegram praised the “DA government” for a new lease on life in the metro (whereas the picture used by The Herald with the letter depicted an event championed by ACDP councillor Lance Grootboom, who is the MMC for public health), as if it was DA that brought about new life within public health and the metro.
This seems to be a tactic of DA supporters in recent weeks when you consider the piece by Retief Odendaal (The Herald, September 10), how they both write about Grootboom’s service delivery as their own achievements.
Brendon Pegram must not think that “the miraculously awakened from a deep slumber over the past couple of months” is credited to the DA only. This narrative is incorrect and deceiving.
This city is governed by a coalition consisting of ACDP, AIC, COPE, DA and UDM.
But what headlines have DA councillors been making in recent times — and this is what they want the public to forget?
We have a DA mayor, who is thankfully recovering and whose accident is still under investigation but who was caught driving allegedly after the curfew hours.
I doubt any investigation will refute that fact.
If those whom we elect to not only uphold the law but to champion it can [allegedly] break it, what does that say about the high and mighty DA that seeks a majority?
To me, all it means is that the façade is finally breaking down. We know that a party is no better than the people who lead and represent it.
And if you cannot trust the incumbents, how can you trust the party they represent?
As for stability in the Bay, might I remind Brendon Pegram and the reader that the DA itself was the architect of bringing instability in our city in 2018 when three of its own councillors turned their backs on their constituencies and gave control back to the ANC.
Just a reminder to all that our metro is not led by a DA government, but by a coalition government.
The “miraculously awakened” must be attributed to the hard work that the coalition government is doing in the city.
