Sundowns stamp authority over TS Galaxy as SuperSport cruise past flightless Swallows

-

SuperSport United barely raised a sweat as they made light work of a hapless Swallows FC to win their DStv premiership match comfortably at the Dobsonville Stadium yesterday afternoon.

The Pretoria visitors never needed to shift into higher gear and the two penalties they earned in the second half effectively clipped the flightless Birds’ wings in the 3-0 victory.

After a rather tight and goalless first half, the game suddenly opened up in the second period when referee Tshidiso Mkhwanazi awarded a penalty to the visitors in the 59th minute.

Jamie Webber beat Swallows goalkeeper Virgil Vries with a well-taken penalty to open the scoring in the 61st minute.

Teboho Mokoena moments later won the ball back from Swallows and after picking out a lurking Webber as he ran into the area, the midfielder struck his shot first time towards goal.

A diving Vries made the save but the ball rolled kindly towards Mokoena, who made no mistake and punished the home side in the 62nd minute.

Sipho Sibiya conceded another penalty in the 70th minute that effectively put the game out of the home side’s reach.

Thamsanqa Gabuza wrapped up all the points for the Pretoria side.

Mamelodi Sundowns claimed an impressive 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Loftus Versfeld yesterday evening.

Therefore, Masandawana toppled SuperSport United from the top spot on the league standings, while the Rockets slipped down to the 15th spot on the log.

Masandawana dominated possession from the first minute with most of their attacks coming from the flanks through their full-backs Lyle Lakay and Grant Kekana.

Lakay set-up Zwane, who cut inside before unleashing a powerful low shot which narrowly missed the target in the eighth minute as the hosts searched for an early goal.

Galaxy goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak was called into action in the 19th minute and he spilt a shot from Gaston Sirino’s freekick and Kermit Erasmus fired over the crossbar from the rebound.

Kolak was looking unconvincing as he also spilt a shot from Erasmus and the ball fell into the path of Zwane, who struggled to connect in the 38th minute and the score was 0-0 at halftime.

After the restart, Sundowns were rewarded with Mosa Lebusa scoring from close range in the 57th minute.

They were soon 2-0 up a minute later when Peter Shalulile scored.

Downs sealed the game with a Thabiso Kutumela low shot into the net. —
