A tribute to our great country

- Maxi Jachens

There is so much to be said about our great country that it is difficult to squeeze an echo lade into a written form to pay adequate tribute to our great country.

From the landscapes, the amazing wildlife, to the many different vegetations as well as the great variety of different cultures in our country, visitors from overseas see us as an amazing country!

As a national tour guide, I took many people through our country time and again from the north to the south to the west.

Untold letters of appreciation from customers pay tribute to the fact that they loved SA!

We can proudly use the phrase “The-All-In-OneCountry”!

The most outstanding bonus in our country is the variety of different people, cultures and languages who call SA home.

Other countries might have different languages as well as dialects from province to province.

Though the French speak French and the British speak English, and so on, in SA we have this wonderful “menglemoes” of cultures and languages and we must have the most astonishing TV/radio news service bringing us the news in a number of languages on the screen, over the radio and in the papers.

That takes good management and caring for the nation. Out of our midst we honour those who give their service to the nation and to their families to earn a living.

Above are two photos of two very different men. One of them is of a very good and honest man who worked for us many years ago around 1996, Alfred, who was always punctual, friendly and kind.

He did not have an easy life and we helped him as best we could. He wanted a photo and that was the least I could do for him.

The other great man, Nelson Mandela, I painted in 2011 — with special permission — as part of my studies at what was then UPE, to honour this great man.

I believe that our nation is blessed with the great variety of people who call it home. God bless this beautiful country and its people.
