Runners set to get down and dirty at Muck Run

With entries set to close at midnight, organisers of the Haval Port Elizabeth Muck Run have called on entrants to come as they are and get as dirty as they want at the event, which takes place this weekend.

The Muck Run is a fun obstacle course over 5km and suitable for everyone.

If you can laugh, then you are ready for it — no special training or special equipment is required.

Dubbed as the “mucky” version of the Urban Run, the event sees entrants, both young and old, take on the challenge to be held at Dawson’s Farm on the corner of Lakeside and Kragga Kamma roads tomorrow for the 5km Muck Run at 3pm, before a 2.5km and a second 5km Muck Run take place at 10am and 11am on Sunday.

Zsports managing director Michael Zoetmulder said online entries would close at midnight today, while late entries would be available at the farm on race morning.

“When completing their entry, people can choose which race they want to do, and they can also choose between the 5km events on Saturday or Sunday if they decide not to do both days.

“The 2.5km is ideally suited for our younger runners, but with so many adults wanting to do the distance, we decided to stop calling it a kid’s race,” he said.

“We are sitting at about 300 entries at the moment and we envision that to increase to about 350-400 participants across both days.

“The Saturday 5km seems to be the most popular among entrants at the moment and we have a few big corporate groups who will be doing the race on Saturday.

“We will have about 15 obstacles this year, which, across a 5km course, is awesome, and we are expecting a lot of fun to be had by everyone involved.”

The 5km event will be open to entrants aged eight and older, while the 2.5km event will be open to runners of all skill levels.

Entries are still available at R200 for the 5km run and R150 for the 2.5km event.

However, latecomers will have to fork out a little extra with entries at the venue on race weekend priced at R300 (5km) and R250 (2.5km).
