The Alexander Road High first teams performed well against their VP counterparts as the two schools met in the annual derby at the Alex campus on Saturday.

Alex were in top form in the hockey fixtures with the girls’ first team winning their match 4-0 and the boys’ side dominating their opponents with a polished performance.

On the soccer field, VP capitalised on early mistakes by Alex in the boys’ first team fixture to walk away with a 3-0 win.

VP gained a second soccer win with a 3-0 result in the U15 clash.

In the early soccer matches on Saturday, VP kept the Alex girls’ first team at bay for most of the game, but a late goal by the hosts secured them a 1-0 win.

In the second team match, Alex netted twice without response from their opponents.

The netball matches were close and entertaining to watch.

Alex’s U18 team succeeded by playing a fast and accurate passing game to end match with a solid win (27-10).

Though the Alex U16 team had a good game, their VP counterparts showed great character to win a tight match 8-6.

The U14A encounter was also a nail-biting affair.

With great teamwork and dedication, Alex made up a two-goal difference in the second half and in the last minute they pushed through for the winning goal (8-7).

The rugby matches were also evenly contested.

The Alex first team finished off the derby with a 33-15 win, while the U16 teams were well matched.

However, VP took the game with a try in the last few minutes, beating Alex 8-5.

VP’s U15 team also won a close match (14-12), while the Alex U14 team stuck to a set game plan and showed good discipline in the first half as they secured a welldeserved win.
