TS Galaxy’s battle for survival down to wire

- Vuyokazi Nkanjeni

TS Galaxy have left it until the last game of the season to save their DStv Premiership status after playing to a goalless draw against Marumo Gallants at the weekend.

The result means the Rockets have to beat Chippa United in their final fixture at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday (3pm).

They also have to hope that Moroka Swallows lose away to Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

If that does not happen, Galaxy will finish 15th and will have to compete against two GladAfrica Championship teams in a mini-log, promotion-relegation battle.

Galaxy winger Orebotse Mongae said they would do whatever it took to avoid being in that position.

“Our fate is still in our hands, all we have to do is to notch up a victory against Chippa,” Mongae, 28, said.

“This game is crucial and we need to give it our all.

“We just need to make sure that we win— there is no other way, it’s a do-or-die fixture for us.

“The pressure will always be there, it’s how you handle [the match] that matters.

“For us, we are just going to make sure that we are being ourselves and that we are comfortable enough to do the things that will make us win.

“Going away it’s not easy even, but going away I feel like the pressure is less [on us], because it’s the home team that has more pressure when they are playing in their home ground.

“You can never allow someone to come into your house and take things.

“So whenever someone comes into your house, you make sure that you protect everything you have, but for us when playing away we always make sure that we snitch something and then we go back home.

“This is a very important game for us we need to make sure that we avoid the play-offs at all cost because we also want to go home and spend time with our families.

“We also need time to recover so it’s important that we do everything in our power to get a win on Saturday,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chippa may be safe from the danger zone after playing to a goalless draw against Moroka Swallows at the weekend, but they have not reached their target of 30 points.

They will have no mercy for Galaxy and will be looking to score a win on Saturday to reach their mandate, but most importantly finish the season on a high note.

The Gqeberha-based side are 12th on the log on 29 points, just a point away from reaching their ideal point tally as the season draws to a finish.
