Exciting weekend of Premier League hockey

- Michael Kliment

The weekend provided more exciting Premier League women’s hockey action.

On Saturday, NMU played host to Gelvandale and this fixture is always one of the highlights on the hockey calendar.

NMU was hosting this particular fixture for the first time since the inception of Covid-19.

The game was played at a good pace and had a lovely feel to it.

NMU showed a bright start and took the lead through Cheneal Raubenhemer in the fourth minute through a field goal.

This fixture is traditionally physically demanding and both teams pushed each other.

The second and third chukkas were rather quiet affairs, but NMU will be disappointed that they were unable to convert some really good opportunities.

The fixture became more open in the fourth chukka and one felt that the next goal would seal the tie.

NMU caught Gelvan on the counter and Jessica Parker was able to neatly put away the opportunity in the 47th minute and sealed the victory for NMU.
