A Bay businessman who allegedly assaulted his son’s former girlfriend is expected back in court next month after the woman refused to take part in mediation.

Gerald Korkie is accused of beating the 25-year-old mother of two, who is not being named, at her place of employment in June.

He was arrested and charged with assault before being released on warning.

The Gqeberha magistrate’s court heard this week that mediation processes between the parties had not taken place as the woman had not wanted to take part.

In footage seen by The Herald, the woman is speaking to Korkie at the North End business premises where she works.

Korkie’s business is across the road from where she works.

It is alleged the woman refused to hand over a vehicle owned by Korkie’s son which was, according to the woman, given to her by her ex.

It is alleged that during the argument between the two, a heated exchange of words took place before Korkie hit the woman in the face with the back of his hand.

As she fell to the ground, Korkie allegedly hit her again on the head before leaving the premises.

The woman had her two young sons with her, but they did not witness the alleged assault as they were in a closed office.

The woman reported the matter to the police.

The case was postponed to October 7 for a pre-trial conference to be held.
