Media helped ensure success of EPRU club competitions

- Sharon Brown, acting GM, EPRU

On behalf of EPRU, our president, executive committee and our member clubs, we would like to express our gratitude towards [deputy sports editor and rugby writer] George Byron and The Herald for your good and extensive media coverage of our 2022 Grand Challenge Club Competition.

Byron made sure that your readers, our clubs and supporters bought newspapers on the Monday following the Saturday’s matches.

He covered most club matches and gave a very good account of matches, the scores and the logs.

Even on a Sunday we would get a glimpse of what would be appearing on the Monday — in the social media.

Let us also hasten to say that we appreciate your editorial comments regarding our under-20 club competition and also that you highlighted how important club rugby is for our region, and that these players form the nucleus of our provincial teams “Club rugby is sparkling jewel in EP’s crown”, September 6).

These players, and our provincial team, will be our building blocks to put EP rugby back on the map in terms of the SA rugby landscape.

Our late ex-president, Andre Rademan, would have been very proud of all our rugby stakeholders, especially what we have achieved this year.

May our good working relationship continue well beyond 2023.
