ART EXHIBITION

The Bird Street Gallery, in partnershi­p with the Absa Gallery and the French Institute of SA, will open its doors for a solo exhibition by Abongile Sidzumo, the 2021 Absa L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto award-winner.

Sidzumo is showcasing his recently produced artworks themed “Amagoduka”, a concept of belonging and what he considers home.

The exhibition opening is on Friday May 5 at 5.30pm for 6pm at the Bird Street Gallery in Central.

There will also be an artist walkabout on Saturday May 6 from 10am to 11am.

Daily viewing will be from May 8 to 26 from 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.

BOOK SALE

The Children’s Feeding Trust will hold a book sale on Saturday May 6 from 9am to noon on the lawn next to the Walmer Town Hall.

CRAFT FAIR

The Craft, Hobbies and Toy Fair takes place on May 6 from 8.30am to 1pm at the Walmer Town Hall in Main Road.

There will be loads of craft stalls, dolls, bears, beautiful painted pictures and a collectibl­e model car display.

There will also be tea, coffee and lovely goodies to eat, as well as some delicious pies, jams, pickles and sauces.

Entrance fee is R5 and all proceeds go to Save-a-Pet.

BONSAI MEETING

Love bonsai? Then join the bonsai meeting on Saturday May 13 at the Newton Park Methodist Church hall in Third Avenue, Newton Park, from 11am. Members will be working on trees until lunch time.

Questions about problem trees and general informatio­n from senior members will also be readily available.

From 2pm onwards, member Laurie Stone will give a demonstrat­ion on how to improve trees and encourage budding.

ART IN THE PARK

Art in the Park will be held on Sunday April 30 at St George’s Park, Park Drive, from 9am to 2pm.

There will be food, arts and crafts, bric a brac and various other stalls. There will also be live music.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Historical Society of Port Elizabeth is partnering with the Botanical Society of SA and the Dendrologi­cal Society for a tour of the Donkin Reserve.

Four vegetation types used to converge on the Donkin.

Participan­ts will learn about the history of the area and the vegetation that should and does occur there.

Meet at the Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism office on the Donkin Reserve at 9am on Sunday April 30 for the three-hour tour.

The event forms part of the City Nature Challenge 2023.
