GUN SOLUTION

Re “Illegal guns flooding streets of Bay” (May 23): In an era of modern technology, why can tracking devices not be installed in firearms?

HAMMANSKRAAL CHOLERA

The problem has been ongoing for 10 years. Now the government is blaming cross-border immigrants. Love their excuses — at what stage will they take responsibility? I think not soon.

ALL HUFF AND PUFF

“Poor defending proved costly for EP — Hermans” (May 23). They lost 56-29, for goodness sake. What else could have caused this thrashing? All huff and no puff on and off the field.

Rocket “Was it sabotage” (May 23) refers. It is quite obvious that these pathetic saboteurs need to be taught a lesson. It’s blatantly clear that present “deterrents” are not working. What about imposing martial law when it comes to key infrastructural assets (fast becoming liabilities)?

BLOCKED DRAINS

With reference to ET of KwaMagxaki’s letter about blocked drains, yes, the litter was dropped by unthinking pedestrians and the like with careless attitudes.

STRUGGLING CHILDREN’S HOMES

I genuinely did not know that the government grants R4,120 a month per child to children’s homes (“Cupboards bare at children’s homes”, May 24). I thought they relied on the public for donations. What a silly billy I am! Well done, government! Good job!

Johnny English

The spokes-person blames loadshedding for weeks of delays in paying subsidies to children’s homes. How many of those officials have burnt the midnight oil during evenings without load-shedding? To say these institutions should be able to operate without state funding gives rise to asking: Why can the president, his deputy and ministers not live without the taxpayers supplying generators and diesel?

ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES

The pathetic picture of two beautiful tigers in a circus cage on Wednesday’s front page refers. Just six words: Ban animal acts in circuses NOW!

POWER OF A HANDSHAKE

Wow! The king of England can shake hands with his subjects at a lake (May 26), yet we seldom see any so-called dignitaries, never mind shaking hands.
