DJ Zinhle pulls out of Durban festival after AKA’s death
Zinhle “DJ Zinhle” Jiyane has no plans at present to visit the city where the father of her child died.
Rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes was gunned down outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10.
Jiyane and AKA have a daughter, Kairo, together.
The city is going to be a hotspot for the entertainment industry in July, with many celebrities flocking to the Cotton Festival and Durban July, among other events.
Jiyane was set to perform at the Fact Durban Rocks event at the Durban July, but has since said she is not comfortable to travel to Durban yet.
“I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban.
“I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban.
“It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durban,” she said.
“I’m going through the most.
“Forget about seeing me in Durban.
“It’s not even that I am mad at Durban.
“It’s just hard.
“It’s only been three months since Kiernan died, so maybe with time.
“But I’m hoping I never change my mind.”
She said she was also a little anxious about Father’s Day next month.
“What am I going to say to Kairo on Father’s Day?”
AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes has also shared how she needs time before visiting Durban and the spot where her son took his last breath.
During her interview on Carol Ofori’s show on East Coast Radio, she said: “I have no desire to go to Durban at the moment.
“It’s not about Durban, but I think getting on a plane to Durban will just open up so much.
“One of the yearnings I have is to stand in the spot where he died, and just be there.
“I know his soul is not there any more and his body is not there any more, but that is the last place where he was alive.”
