Action-packed SA series poised to thrill audiences
Online streamers are in for an epic treat — SA production company Ochre Moving Pictures’ highly anticipated series Soon Comes Night is set to premiere on Netflix Africa today.
Set in the early years of the emerging “rainbow nation”, as SA leapt into a post-apartheid democratic society, Soon Comes Night has been punted as a riveting, original, actionpacked crime drama.
The six-part series, featuring Kwenzo Ngcobo as liberation hero-turned heist king Alex Shabane, and Albert Pretorius as detective Sakkie Oosthuizen, a broken apartheid cop seeking redemption, follows the story of how the two men’s lives interlink, and explores the complexities of morality and the blurred lines between good and bad.
Directed by Thabang Moleya and Sanele Zulu, and produced by Ilse van Hemert, Soon Comes Night is inspired by actual events and follows Shabane’s return to SA, where
he resorts to crime after the promised “spoils of war” fail to materialise.
Ochre Moving Pictures CEO Stan Joseph said the company was thrilled to have produced the show, which he described as a “meticulously crafted scripted series that promises to captivate audiences locally and globally with its compelling storyline and exceptional SA talent”.
“Ochre Moving Pictures is committed to investing in original African stories that can attract a worldwide audience and contribute to a sustainable SA film and television industry,”
he said.
Other actors in the series include Gaosi Raditholo, as Lesedi, a single mother and the spark that ignited the flame in Shabane, Didintle Khunou as Thato Sekoati, a “born-free” police officer haunted by the loss of her father, Kenneth Nkosi as minister Zungu, Sisanda Henna as Zungu’s right-hand man, Maseko, and Bahumi Mhlongo who plays young and fearless Sowetan journalist Lesedi.
Soon Comes Night will also air on SABC1 in 2025, and is distributed internationally by Red Arrow Studios.
