DA showing classic ‘baasskap’ mentality

- Lawrence Troon, GOOD councillor

An open letter to my DA friends and followers.

I want you to consider carefully and seriously what I will be saying now.

The DA was brought into power at many municipalities in the country by means of the EFF since 2016.

Even in November 2021, the EFF voted with the DA here in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.

The DA had absolutely no problem with accepting the votes and support of the EFF.

John Steenhuisen said on more than one occasion that the DA would consider going into a coalition with the ANC after the elections of May 29.

My question is: Who on earth do these people think they are that they have the power and moral high ground to work with the EFF and ANC then think there is nothing wrong with it.

It is this “baasskap” mentality that will forever divide this country.

Let me tell you this, that we as coloured and black people were raised by Christian parents that instilled in us values such as integrity, honesty and character to ensure good governance and to fight fraud.

We as the GOOD party are the only ones in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality that are openly fighting fraud and corruption in this metro.

The silence of the DA on the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) fraud is deafening.

It makes me wonder if the DA has something to hide with the EPWP saga.

I have been raised by parents who taught me not to be a respecter of persons but instead to treat people equally.

In my life, I have come across people of all race groups to be corrupt — black, coloured, white and Indian.

Yet the DA wants to give the impression that black and coloured people are inherently corrupt.

The biggest fraud and corruption case that this country ever experienced was that of Steinhoff and Markus Jooste and the DA was dead silent on that matter.

To my DA friends and followers, you can no longer continue following this party and not raise these pertinent questions to them.

Yes, all races have the propensity to do good and evil, let us not only single out black and coloured people as being corrupt.

I am prepared to debate any leader of the DA on any platform regarding this matter.
