CHRISTMAS FOR CATS AND DOGS

- JADE LE ROUX

Ayoung Hilton girl is thinking of the animals this Christmas and asking the community to help her make a “Christmas miracle” for the SPCA animals.

For the past three years, Chernell King (20), has committed to doing her own personal SPCA Christmas drive. At first, this consisted of throwing an item of pet food into the trolley whenever she went shopping with her mother, which she would then collect and donate to the SPCA on Christmas Eve. Last year, she decided to extend the drive to her friends and family; but this year, she wants to invite her community to join her.

“Christmas has always been my favourite holiday, but my heart always goes out to all the animals that don’t have families with whom to share this happy time. Everyone wants a Christmas miracle; even animals deserve one, and we can be their secret Santa,” she said.

Chernell’s Christmas Eve donation drives are extra special because she takes her Pekingese named Sasha along with her as ‘Sasha the Santa’, dressed in a red jersey for some extra Christmas cheer.

She is appealing to the Hilton community to join her in making a festive miracle come true again for all the homeless and unwanted animals spending a lonely Christmas at the SPCA shelter.

Anyone willing to donate any items to make the animals lives a little more comfortable, such as food, treats, blankets and toys, can contact King on 079 507 2531.
