DESIGN AND WIN
You’ve probably noticed that Shift Capital, developers of the new Hilton Siding Shopping Centre, have begun transforming the vacant plot on 1 Park Lane (corner of Park Lane and Hilton Avenue) by cutting down invasive species.
As Phase 1 construction begins, the developers are running a logo design competition, challenging the public from Hilton and surrounds to submit a logo design for the centre.
The winner will take home bragging rights to the centre’s branding as well as a prize package (worth R5000) curated from local businesses: Karkloof Canopy Tours for 2 R300 voucher for The Station Coffee Shop
R300 to spend on pampering treatments at Dragonfly Nails & Beauty
A biltong hamper from KZN Game Meat Velskoens (or another product to of the same value) from Boet & Betty
1 week meal delivery from Tastebox for 2
A sweet hamper from Chocolate Sensations
A hamper of sustainable living items from Living It Green AND R1000 cash! With the Hilton Siding Shopping Centre, Shift Capital intends creating a convenient, safe shopping and lifestyle experience, catering for the future while respecting and protecting Hilton’s heritage. Getting locals involved in the logo design competition represents the developers’ entrenchment in the Hilton community.
“As a past pupil of Cowan House and Hilton College, I have a strong affinity for the village. My family and I recently moved to the area, and we will be moving our Shift Capital head office to Hilton Siding,” said Nic McSeveney, managing director of Shift Capital (pictured). “In terms of our own family business (Shift Capital), Hilton Siding will become our flagship development, setting the standard for what we can do. It’s a project very close to our hearts.”
Encompassing 3884 square metres on the busiest section of Hilton Avenue, Hilton Siding aims to become one of the growing village’s most convenient and affordable shopping centres. The land has always been zoned for commercial purposes, but has remained undeveloped and become an area of urban decay.
Opening in December 2021, it will be a family-orientated, eco-friendly shopping centre. Anchored by a new FreshX concept Checkers, a Clicks pharmacy, Seattle Coffee, and family favourites like Nandos and Ocean Basket, it will provide an affordable one-stop-shop for a parent or professional’s daily needs, right on their way to school or work.
The architecture uses Corten steel elements, I-beams with aged brickwork, and industrial style steel doors and windows to achieve a ‘railway station’ feel.
Some of the original steel arch elements will also be used as design features.
The centre is more than just a shopping destination. The covered walkways, promenade, amphitheatre and open spaces lend themselves to gatherings such as picnics, fitness events, performances, markets, heritage tours or a place to simply chill out while enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.
The winning logo design will feature on the building itself, as well as on all Hilton Siding documents, marketing material, the website, social media accounts, and anywhere that the brand name is mentioned.
