CHARITY KNITS

- JADE LE ROUX force again.

Hilton resident Felicity Mitchel, who spent her lockdown knitting beanies and kitty blankets for the SPCA, has already donated more than 100 beanies to the charity shop to raise funds for the SPCA, and she’s far from stopping.

During lockdown last year, Mitchel got the idea to knit blankets for the SPCA cats to keep them warm during winter. Her project extended into supplying beanies to the SPCA’s charity for them to sell for profit when the hard lockdown took a toll on the organisation’s primary fundraising initiatives.

The community’s donations of wool have kept her going and she is now aiming to double the number of beanies to

200.

She has also started knitting baby jackets as a variation. Mitchel, who enjoys knitting, said it’s the easiest thing to do while watching TV, and it’s for a good cause. She will continue with her project until things settle down and the SPCA’s fundraising initiatives are able to commence in full
