CUCKOO LANE WOES
Residents in Cuckoo Lane, Hilton, are going cuckoo. That’s because half of them are unable to access Celtis Road to Hilton since the lane developed a sinkhole beneath the road surface and is now under repair.
The extent of the damage is massive. Councillor Pam Passmoor said that water continually draining from the hill side above, linked to very old water pipes beneath the road, probably laid 60 or 70 years ago, and which have now collapsed, resulted in a massive “cave” developing beneath the road’s surface. “Fortunately the road was closed to traffic before any nasty accidents,” she said. Repairs are finally under way, after contractors were hired
Those residents on the other side of the hole will have to travel down Amy Wilson and then into St Michael’s and then negotiate their way from there, eventually into Buddleigh and then into Cuckoo Lane, on shocking roads.
The project is likely to take several more weeks to complete.
