LOOKING OUT FOR HILTON’S ELDERLY

-

After increased crime against the elderly in the area, the Hilton Community Neighbourhood Watch (HCNW) is taking extra measures to protect the community’s senior citizens.

They want to establish a database of the details of all residents over 70 who live alone or with disabilities.

This information will be kept secure and private, and will be solely for the purpose of enabling the HCNW to monitor their safety through either phone calls, visits or other technology.

Warrant Officer Andrew Salzwedel is appealing to Hilton’s elderly and disabled to register on the database so the HCNW can assist in providing additional security support to them.

This extra policing initiative comes after 82-year-old artist and former UKZN Professor Francois Hugo was found dead in his Hilton home with his hands tied behind his back earlier this month.

Thanks to the swift investigation and a combined operation with Hilton SAPS detectives, the Hilton Crime Prevention Unit, Prestbury detectives and Knight Security members, three men have since been arrested in connection with Hugo’s murder and his personal property has been recovered.

Investigations are ongoing.
