CELEBRATING HILTON’S COLOURFUL COMMUNITY AT THE QUARRY CENTRE
The Hilton community got colourful over the last weekend in July by joining forces with Gallery Zaza, founded by local artist, Jono Hornby, to paint a new wall mural at The Quarry Centre.
As part of “Art at The Quarry”, a month dedicated to celebrating the local art scene and talented local artists of Hilton, as well as bringing the community together. The Quarry Centre commissioned Hornby, a mural and street artist, to create the mural at the back of the shopping centre, overlooking the quarry reserve.
“Symbolising togetherness, hope and commUNITY spirit, the wall mural project encouraged Hilton locals to bond over a splatter of paint and enjoy the unrivalled beauty of the Quarry Centre,” said Quarry Centre spokesperson Nikki Downs.
“The wall mural project is also part of a bigger move to rejuvenate the under-utilised area at the back of the Quarry Centre which has the most spectacular panoramic views over the quarry reserve as well as seating areas, picnic spots and a new jungle gym for the kids.”
“The Quarry Centre is so much more than just a place to shop; it is a space where families and friends can relax and unwind, grab a coffee or bite to eat, at the same time as getting all their shopping done in one place.”
“The Quarry Centre has been part of the Hilton community for almost three decades, and will continue to adapt and evolve to suit the needs of our growing community,” added Downs.
Commenting on his contribution to the project, Jono Hornby said: “Gallery Zaza’s vision is to make art public, and to make public space artistic. We believe that social inclusivity promotes a sense of belonging, and so engaging with people, and promoting change and human rights are central to everything we do.”
