Has Winnie gone under the knife?
SUNSCREEN helps, so do good genes and not going to bed with make-up on. But when Winnie Madikizela Mandela revealed her “Awesome at 80” look, many of us were thinking how to turn back the clock.
The “mother of the nation” arrived in Cape Town for her birthday celebration at the Belmoed Mount Nelson Hotel revealing baby smooth, glowing skin. She wasn’t wearing her signature glasses and her flawless and wrinkle-free skin looked lifted, rejuvenated and renewed. She also sported immaculate make-up and an stylish Afro wig.
For all her claims to fame (or infamy) Mama Mandela has always been recognised as a natural beauty. As the story goes Madikizela Mandela, aged 21, stopped Nelson Mandela in his tracks when he drove past her at a bus stop. It was enough for him to stop the car and make his move – and the rest, as they say, is history.
Madikizela Mandela, who underwent back surgery earlier this year, has looked drawn and tired recently, often hiding behind oversized dark glasses. But on Thursday, at the start of birthday celebrations for September 26, she looked every bit the glam gogo.
Her new look could be thanks to a host of surgical and non-surgical procedures that have transformed skincare technology in 2016. Among that most popular non-invasive treatments for anti-ageing are botox and fillers, but most experts say a combination of treatment products, procedures and maintenance regimes are what’s needed to fight gravity, wrinkles and age-related pigmentation problems.
Ntsiki Khumalo, a beauty trainer for beauty chain Sorbet in Gauteng says some basics can help. “The trick is regular facials, eat healthily, drink plenty of water and make sure you find out what products will work for you.” And, she says, sunscreen is essential.
Whatever treatments Madikizela Mandela opted for, the results got the thumbs up.
