‘Out of the Box’ and soon to be here
Veterans of the South African music industry, the Jaziel Brothers – Luthando and Ntobeko Ngcizela – believe when it comes to the tough music industry, KZN has loads of talent to bring to the stage.
The duo, actually cousins, have just launched their album Out of the Box and will spend two days in Durban to promote it next week. They’ll meet fans at Musica in Gateway and The Pavilion on Saturday, September 24.
Luthando said this week that while the music industry was based primarily in Gauteng, much of the country’s talent was found in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
“Artists tend to make their breakthrough in Gauteng, it is where most of it is happening and when they come to Gauteng, they help each other,” he said.
The Jaziel Brothers are a household name in local music as multi-award-winning musicians, songwriters, and producers. They spearheaded the Afro Pop genre in South Africa and have produced numerous SA Music Awardand Metro FM Music Awardwinning albums. The list includes Big Nuz, Lesego, Oliver Mtukudzi and Kelly Khumalo.
Released in August, Out of the Box is the brothers’ first album in four years, although Luthando said, “we have been doing music with other people in that time, so it doesn’t seem like four years”.
Luthando said the album’s main single, Ndinike Indawo (Give Me Space in Your Heart) had been well received, but “it seems everyone is enjoying different songs from the album, which is great as we don’t want to do an album which is about only one song.”
While they will also be doing a number of radio interviews in Durban, Luthando said they would find time to hit the beach.
“We also share a lot of friends, who we will be spending time with when we are down in Durban.”
Despite a hectic schedule, Luthando said they tried to go to gym and play squash.
“We also enjoy movies and shisanyamas,” he said.
