By your Grace

- DUNCAN GUY

ROYAL College of Music in London graduate James Grace is bringing his talents to Kloof and Pietermaritzburg in three Music Revival concerts.

At the college, he had been a Foundation Scholar with Carlos Bonell and upon graduating became the first guitarist in the history of the college to receive the Tagore Gold Medal, an annual award presented to the most outstanding student.

The popular guitarist then embarked on a two-year Qatar interlude at an international music centre in the oil-rich Gulf country.

He said each of the Gulf states had its own musical language. “It’s rhythmicallybased and more improvised .”

Tomorrow he will join forces with pianist Christopher Duigan at the Tatham Art Gallery at 3pm tomorrow; Casa Mexicana at 35 Montgomery Road on Tuesday, February 21 and at St Agnes Church in Kloof on Thursday, February 23.

The programme will include duo arrangements and improvisations on classic melodies, jazz standards, Latin milongas and Spanish fiestas.
