Comrades test run for WEF man
DANLADI Verheijen’s trip to Durban for the World Economic Forum Africa goes far beyond business.
The Nigerian businessman and Young Global Leader, has developed a long-distance affair with the southern tip of the continent – and it’s all about running. After closing a discussion on the importance of strengthening relationships between Nigeria and South Africa, Verheijen hit the beachfront promenade.
“I do long-distance running and there’s a group of us who love to run. This year we are doing the Comrades Marathon for the first time.”
Tomorrow, he will do a “test run” of the Comrades route.
“I decided while I am here, I will do a test run and see how I do, it’s going to be a challenge.”
He completed the Two Oceans Marathon last year.
Verheijen is head of one of the biggest financial management companies in Nigeria and said there was a definite need for Nigeria and South Africa to work together. Forums such as WEF meant people could meet and work towards that goal.
“I enjoy coming to South Africa and see its growth and development. There is a lot the two countries can learn from each other. South Africa has a mature market and is looking to expand, there are people with many skills here. In Nigeria, we have a growing market and we can benefit from the skills and expertise that South Africa can lend. We can all work together,” he said.
