Mix of tunes at music festival
THE Michaelhouse Festival of Music will be a feast of multi-genre music, including a line-up of classical music, which will take place at Michaelhouse School from May 11-13.
The KZN Wind Orchestra will open the festivities in the Chapel, while next on the programme will be the celebration of 30 years of the Music School.
Festival co-ordinator William Silk said there will be loads of music talent on show.
“Most recently our accomplished school-based band, Pillar Box Red, was one of the main acts at the last year’s festival. We will be celebrating our milestone in true musical fashion, putting on a magnificent concert which displays our musical prowess,” said Silk.
On a Sunday morning the chapel will host Audrey Mbuyazi and friends with a performance entitled A Spiritual Journey.
A concert for young and old with voices combined for the Choral Elite Concert will see the KZN Midlands Youth Choir, the Christ Church Preparatory School Senior Choir, Clifton Nottingham Road Prep Choir, the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Choir and the Vox Amicis.
After midday, the Young Performers Concert will feature the KZN Philharmonic Ensemble conducted by Michaelhouse’s William Silk. They will be joined by the KZN Midlands Youth Choir making their second appearance of the day featuring a number of talented young soloists.
The Trio Appassionato will perform: Durban pianist, Andrew Warburton together with husband and wife duo, violinist Violeta Osorhean and French horn player Sorin Osorhean. They will play a collection of great pieces from the chamber music repertoire.
The Grand Finale takes place in the Schlesinger Theatre. The Magic of the Music in the Midlands concludes the weekend’s musical line-up. Silk holds the baton, featuring the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra with musical legends PJ Powers and Khan Morbee.
They will be some of the choirs as those from The Choral Elite Concert, local residents, the Michaelhouse Chapel Choir and guest soloists.
