THE Melanie Kisten Dance Academy production Who’s The Boss?, a fusion of dance and comedy, will be staged at the Barnyard Theatre tomorrow.

The show centres on three best friends who are bored in their marriages, so they decide to play around with the idea of having extra-marital flings.

The performers are Melanie Kisten, Lyle Chellan, Narusha Chetty, Kubeshan Naidoo, Mayeshini Parusaram and Desiree Kisten, with debut performances given by Kyle Pillay and Krishna Subrayen.

Kisten said the show dealt with aspects of marriage, including love, betrayal, trust, greed, and equality between husband and wife.

The idea for the show came to her when she was on a national tour and heard a group of people air their views on marriage, and discuss the behaviour of their spouses that irritated them.

“It reached a common point where, in every relationship, there is always a stronger partner and a weaker one. I chuckled at first, and then this sparked an idea, and I thought it would be an interesting topic for a script, and that this topic is something every husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend can relate to.

I took reality and combined it with a pinch of humour by adding some twists in this delightful tale.”

The actress said the talented cast brought the characters to life in an interesting, funny and wacky way.

“We have pushed ourselves to the extremes and turned dancers into actors, actors into dancers, and include singing as well.

“So it’s definitely going to be a variety of talents that audiences can look forward to,” she said. The show, which is suitable for the whole family, includes a mix of 1990s music and present-day Bollywood music, hip hop and Afro fusion.

“It is high energy, emotionally charged and has vibrant dance sequences. The sequences are performed to complement each act.

The sizzling moves and colourful costumes and props will leave the audiences spellbound,” Kisten said.

She said loads of comedy was incorporated in the script.

“We believe laughter is the best medicine, but in all that, we will still leave the audience with a moral at the end of the show,” she said.

Who’s The Boss? is on at the Barnyard Theatre at Suncoast Casino tomorrow at 7.30pm. Ticketscost R150 and are available at www. barnyardtheatre.co.za
