Suspected hijackers nabbed by KZN police
POLICE nabbed six suspected hijackers in two separate incidents yesterday.
In the first incident, Mariannhill police arrested three suspects aged between 20 and 35, recovered a hijacked vehicle and three firearms with ammunition. The suspects will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
KZN SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said officers had received a report of a vehicle that was hijacked in Welbadacht on Thursday. She said the men could also be linked to a house robbery that occurred at Thornwood, in Mariannhill, a few weeks ago, where the victim was robbed of his belongings – including a firearm.
In the second case, provincial task team members arrested suspects who were found with a number of car keys suspected to be from hijacked vehicles.
“Suspects were also in possession of a VW Polo that was hijacked in Newlands West in June 2018.
“At that time, the tracking company located it in KwaMashu K section.
“Immediately after spotting the tracking company vehicle, the suspects fired multiple gunshots. The victim had fled to the police station, seeking assistance.
“They (the suspects) will be charged for possession of stolen property, carjacking and will also be linked to an attempted murder,” said Gwala. | ARTHI GOPI
