WOMEN’S RIGHT TO VOTE

ON JAN­UARY 12, 1915, the US Congress voted against giv­ing women the right to vote.

Mem­bers of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives were recorded as say­ing women should not be bur­dened with pol­i­tics. For­tu­nately, five years later, af­ter con­stant pres­sure, women won the right to vote un­der the US’s 19th amend­ment to its con­sti­tu­tion.
