On this day in 1959, according to Wikipedia, five friends entered a sinkhole in the town of Nerja in the province of Malaga, Spain and, in so doing, rediscovered the Caves of Nerja.

As one of the country’s most popular attractions, the caves are a series of caverns and contain paintings, which some people say date back 42 000 years.

Concerts can be held in the chamber, which forms a natural amphitheatre.
