The Home Office

WITH WFH firmly established as productivity’s new normal, many, if not all, of us have had to face the challenge of establishing a home office. But, caveat emptor, establishing your base of operations on home turf isn’t all that simple. For starters, you want to avoid a simple cut-and-paste of the corporate aesthetic – your home office should reflect your personality while introducing design-savvy plays for a space that’s as much about function as it is form. Here is a selection of locally designed and produced (ticking the sustainability and small business support boxes) pieces for a stylish homebound-working solution.

The Desk

Channeling a minimalist Scandi aesthetic, the sleek, sustainably-sourced timber Houtlander ‘Writing Desk’ is the ideal at-home bureau. It’s slender form makes it an unimposing addition to any room, especially when the office is part of a larger open-plan space while it delivers design cred in spades.

The Chair

The ‘Loop’ lounger by duo Dokter & Misses is designed with ergonomics and utility in mind, but not at the expense of visual appeal. The aluminium backrest supports while the leather seat ensures all-day comfort.

The Lamp

From designer Mia Widlake’s Studio19 comes a uniquely attractive lighting solution – ‘The Silo’ table lamp. The handpoured marble resin base (this process renders each unit unique) and powdercoated arm and shade is the perfect bridge between industrial and luxe.

The Scent

Just like you, your home deserves a signature fragrance, and local scent masters Wick have created a heady offering of oils to go with this, its ceramic diffuser on a beechwood base (the vetiver should be your first choice). Diffusers use no heat, making this a safe and efficient option.
