Ford in F1

AFTER a hiatus of more than two decades, Ford is returning to F1 in 2026. The carmaker is teaming up with Red Bull Powertrains in a longterm strategic technical partnership for the development of the next-gen hybrid power unit. Red Bull Ford will provide the engines for the Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Alpha Tauri teams until at least 2030.

“This is the start of a thrilling new chapter in Ford’s motorsport story,” said Bill Ford, executive chairperson.

NISSAN and Renault, which are in the process of renewing their alliance, have announced a series of new global projects and one of these is a half-ton bakkie. Four new projects are being considered for the Latin America region, including a new half-ton bakkie range, which would be “developed by Renault and shared with Nissan in Argentina”, according to a statement released this week.

Could the Nissan version serve as a replacement for the ageing Nissan NP200 in South Africa? This is very much up to speculation for now as Nissan has made no mention of Africa in its list of future product projects released this week. |

RED Bull’s Max Verstappen shrugged off a suggestion he was favourite for a third successive F1 championship and said the sport needed a closer battle than last year even if he intended to be better than ever.

Asked how keen he was for Mercedes to get back into the fight, with seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton failing to win a race in a season for the first time in his career, Verstappen replied: “I think in the interests of the sport you always want the teams to be super-close. But I do think it was already quite close last year.”
